Scrap Handlers : a new beginning in the construction equipment industry
A scrap handler is a heavy-duty material handling machine. It's a wheel or tracked excavator with a long articulated arm and a grapple.
A grapple is a rigid mounted or free-hanging working organ for excavators and cranes. These fittings can handle different objects including wood, rocks and debris. Among the variety are: clam shell buckets, log grapples, demolition grapples, stone grapples, scrap and waste sorting grapples. Material handlers can work with other attachments too: hydraulic hammers and breakers compactor plates tree cutters etc.
One of great possibilities of industrial excavator is hydraulic cab rising. The cabin can be lifted to give the operator better visibility. Another useful part are four outriggers that support the usually wheeled excavator while moving heavy loads.
Industrial excavators can be used for:
• bulk handling;
• scrap and waste handling;
• debris recycling;
• tunnels and bridges construction;
• rock handling;
• wood logging;
• vegetable crops handling (eg. potatoes beets).
The use of Scrap Handlers
Apart from wheel and crawler vehicles there are floating scrap handlers more often referred to as dredgers. These floating dragline excavators or single-bucket excavators are used for dredging – deepening the seabed digging underwater ditches and carrying out the bottom sediments. Their working organ is a clam shell bucket.
A modern add-on for excavator grapples is scales to weight the lifted materials. It's accurate even in motion. The operator gets the data from an electronic transmitter that sends them to the cabin monitor.
The main manufacturers of industrial excavators and other construction machines are eg. Atlas, Case, Caterpillar, Fuchs, Hitachi, Hydrema, Liebherr and Sennebogen.
